Farm Openings

The main actors of the transparency initiative are the family-run farms that open their doors to visitors. So anyone interested can take the opportunity to look at broiler, turkey or laying hen husbandry.

In addition, empirical data collection in the context of open days, which will provide an overview of the settings for intensive poultry husbandry before and after the visit to the stables and the origin, age and social structure of the visitors.

From September 2012 to October 2018, around 14,900 visitors informed themselves about modern poultry farming in Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia and Hessen, with the vast majority of all open days taking place in Lower Saxony (42). So far, 47 farms, including laying hen husbandry, young broiler husbandry, turkey husbandry and goose husbandry, have opened their stables.

The open days generally take place from April to October. The dates are published well in advance on the WING homepage. There are no public openings planned during the winter months.
